About
"Hydrogen boride," which was successfully synthesized in 2017, is a key material in the generation, transportation, storage, and use of hydrogen, which is important for achieving carbon neutrality. Hydrogen boride is expected to have a wide range of applications, not only as a hydrogen source, but also as a fuel for laser fusion and in space development. The University of Tsukuba, Hydrogen Boride Research Center started from April 1, 2025. It will become a global center for hydrogen boride research, and will contribute to research and development in the fields of materials, fusion energy, space, health and medicine, and environmental energy, as well as to its use in society.

The logo changes from a hexagon to a sphere in five stages, symbolizing the potential of borohydride and the changes it will bring about in the future. The hexagon represents the structure of borohydride, while the spheres represent the new future and applied technologies that will be born from this research.
The change from a large hexagon to a small sphere visually represents the evolution of science, the exploration of the unknown, and the creation of innovative technology, demonstrating the future-oriented research attitude that HBRC aims for.
Hydrogen boride research center is taking part inTsukuba Institute for Advanced Research.
