Begin Your Research at Kim-Go Laboratory

A quick guide for students interested in advanced metallic materials and laboratory life.

Undergraduates

Students can select our laboratory through the third-year laboratory assignment process.

Graduate Students

We welcome inquiries from students interested in graduate study and research in our laboratory.

Research Process

Students select a topic with their supervisor and advance their research through experiments, analysis, and presentations.

Laboratory Inquiries

Questions about our research and requests for laboratory visits are always welcome.

For Undergraduate Students

To join the Kim–Go Laboratory in the fourth year of undergraduate study, students must select our laboratory during the laboratory assignment process held around December of their third year in the College of Engineering Sciences, Department of Applied Sciences, at the University of Tsukuba.

For Graduate Students

If you are interested in pursuing graduate study or conducting research at Kim-Go Laboratory, please contact Prof. Kim at heeykim@ims.tsukuba.ac.jp to discuss research opportunities and admission. For detailed information regarding entrance examinations and past exam questions, please refer to the website of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

Research Process

After joining the laboratory, students discuss potential research topics with faculty members and determine their research theme. Once the topic is decided, students learn experimental and analytical methods from senior students and proceed with their research. Research progress and results are presented at weekly seminars. When sufficient results are achieved, students have the opportunity to present their work at academic conferences.

Career Paths After Graduation

Graduates apply their expertise in materials development and characterization across a wide range of industries, including the automotive and steel sectors. Those who continue to a doctoral program may also pursue research careers at universities and research institutes.
